Hi I have recently bought a corsa c sri approx 7 weeks ago, since driving the car has stalled on me unexpectedly twice, on the first occasion I was driving uphill and the car began to misfire ie engine jerking and then it just stalled on me I pulled up and left the car a couple of minutes and it started fine and ran with no problams untill yesterday, i was just about to reverse the car and it stalled again when trying to restart the car it just turned over without starting on the second attempt it reluctantly started and was then fine again ( approx 5 weeks between problams), there is no engine warning light on the car on either occasion and the peddle trick to show any fault codes was blank the last time I attempted it, I have tried to look up any possible causes one being a faulty crank sensor but usually the check engine light would come on? the check engine light seems to be working as it comes on pre ignition and goes off when you start the car as normal and when doing the self diognostic test it flashes ok just showing a constant flash which is apparently to show no codes stores,
would it be worth buying a diognostic tool that would show any pending codes that will not bring the check engine light on as I believe pending codes will clear after a certain quantity of ok cycles?
I know that its difficult to say the exact cause over the internet but any pointers/info would be great, many thanks.

Problem with these cheap self diagnostic machines you get off Ebay is that they may well come up with a fault code like "Pxxxx", but what good does that do you?

You still need to find out what it means, how to understand it and then what to do to fix the problem.

Best bet is to take it to a garage who'll have the correct gear to properly check it out and the experience to understand what it's telling them. It'll probably be cheaper in the long run, but I'd say you've just discovered why the previous owner wanted rid of the car.

Cheaper to get a garage to do the diagnostic rather than buy something expensive that will only get used once or twice.

Never heard of a "Pending code" - maybe they exist maybe not

As it is an intermittent fault and with it only happening twice in different circumstances I would say there is little anyone could diagnose at this time.

True if the crank sensor was at fault then it would be faulty a lot more, have the ECU light on and maybe now not start at all.

Sounds like maybe a fuel problem, maybe some dirt or water in there.

considering that diesels don't have spark plugs the ignition timing is performed by making use of the injection pump. If the pump timing is off that's an indication of a important positioned on or broken gears. The valves do choose for periodic adjustment yet each automobile could have its very own provider technique. that's additionally a complicated activity. gas filtration is critical so substitute the filter out and water separator in many situations. you may take place the gas pump and setting up greater suitable gas injectors on some automobiles. adjust the waste gate on the rapid (if have been given one, in case you haven't any longer visit a scrappy and are available across a usual one which will greater healthful) boosts HP at extreme RPM yet makes the rapid spool up slower. Messing with the dimensions of rapid additionally will boost rapid lag or rapid improve stress. For overall performance an intercooler is a ought to. improve pressures above 50 PSI blow head gaskets until you have O-ring head gaskets put in. Then in case you up the horsepower the tranny and force prepare will choose for adjusted to no longer blow. Now for extras, get an induction kit yet no longer those inexpensive ones you may get from argos get a ok&n or pipercross. additionally a greater proper exhaust device top-rated a lower back cat, additionally attempt and unfastened as plenty greater weight as available no longer you the motor vehicle lol. then get a european remap, purely which will do you wonders yet do it after putting each thing else on it or you will could shop going lower back to get the main out of it and which will fee you a fortune. desire this helps

unless you can use any codes generated? there generally poor value for man in the street.

since it only occurs when engine under load? it points to possibility of either electrical or fuel systems . here a garage using diagnostic equipment and a decent technician can almost always pinpoint the root cause.
