Question:
Which Vauxhall Astra to buy?

I'm looking at getting a nearly new Astra, but am baffled by the choice out there!

Question #1: 1.6 Turbo petrol or 2.0 Turbo diesel...? The diesel is a bit more money but uses less fuel. Currently I do 8000 miles each year, however, work may mean an increased commute from 12 to 45 miles each day. But there again, it might not, I don't find out until August.

Question #2: Astra hatchback or Astra GTC? The GTC costs more, but it looks nicer and I'm told it is better to drive (haven't had the chance to drive one yet). It comes with more kit as standard. But, the diesel GTC is really pushing my budget, especialy since I'm moving house.

So my options are:
-Astra hatchback diesel
-Astra GTC diesel
-Astra GTC 1.6T

There are few decent 1.6T hatchbacks out there so that's not an option.

Many thanks in advance for all informative responses.

do test drives in all your options - hire them if you must!

The TD engine would be my choice IF the commute goes up, with a lower cost per mile.

Forger the diesels with 8000 a year as it will work out more expensive due to the higher cost of the car, fuel and maintenance.
