I have a 2006 Vauxhall Meriva CDTI, this morning while parking the steering started to sound like something was grinding and i could feel it down the steering wheel. I turned of the engine and then the steering went heavy, suspect the power steering went of so I powered off again and it seemed to come back but the grinding noise was still there. Ive left it around a hour and checked it out again buy driving it round the car park. Does anyone have any ideas if there is a serious prob or does it just sound like something that was intermittent?

Also is the car safe to drive if ?

Cheers

if the noise is at full lock its normal but check the pas pump has enough fluid in it.

In brief, your power steering has failed and it's a known fault with the Meriva. Ring your Vauxhall garage.

the meriva and corsa c are quite prone to steering racks - this is an expensive job because its an electric rack

Take it to a garage to get it checked out.
