Vauxhall Meriva - handbrake usage any tips?

I just picked a brand new Meriva on hire and I can't work out how to operate the parking brake so that I can do a "handbrake start" e.g. when pulling away on a hill. I have to do a long drive in France and Belgium tomorrow so any tips would be really welcome. Thanks

This is easy. With the parking brake on, slowly lift the clutch pedal as you are about to pull away, but have your foot on the brake pedal. As you release the brake pedal and apply the accelerator, the EPB will release itself. This method should be in the handbook;
