found tigra at car sales for £1650, 1.6, M reg ins group 10 and did a search quote with gocompare.com, it came back with £960 as best quote. This would be my first car and was looking at Peugeot 206, it was £2400 ins group 4 and the quotes were £800 odd! so works out cheaper to get the higher group car! anyone have a view to share on the tigra? known problems, what is the MPG like? etc
thanks

Hi. The tigra was renowned for being a pain in the a** and breaking down all the time. Although they are based on the corsa they do not share their reliability. You would be much better off with a ford puma. This is an excerpt from parkers review: "Where to begin? Tigra was developed quickly and it shows in the reliability. Owners report many problems, including starting faults and trouble with head gaskets, clutches, brakes, suspension" Check out the review at http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/vauxhall/tigra-1994.aspx?model=979&page=4

Razw is talking complete nonsense. Parker's guide isn't worth the paper it's written on anyhow, no-one in the trade takes it seriously.

The Tigra is a very reliable car though they can rust underneath so check carefully. Insurance, parts and servicing all cheap but £1650 is big money for an 'M' reg one. I reckon if you bought one privately you'd be looking at only a little over half that for a good one.

Peugeot's still have build quailty issues and whilst some can be very good a lot can be absolutely dire and I wouldn't entertain one again, far too many niggly problems.Oh, Tigra dearer to insure because classed as a sports car. Try looking at some small-medium five door cars such as the excellent Vauxhall Astra as five doors quite often cheaper to insure.

I even have had a vauxhall tigra for the previous 3 years year and it rather is an impressive vehicle in my opinion. Dont get one nevertheless once you're making plans on having greater desirable than one passenger regularly via fact the lower back seats at the instant are not made for passengers.

Why are there people here suggesting a Ford would be better??? Do you know what Ford stands for? First On Rubbish Dump.

Vauxhalls have never let me down in my 25 years of driving them.

Unfortunately have never had a Tigra, so can't help you there.

960 sounds very decent for a youngster with a g10 car. I may be wrong but isn't it basically a corsa with a diffrent shell and some tweaks? so would expect it to be about the same as a corsa for mpg, maybe even a bit better as it should be lighter

Get the Ford Puma 1.6 or for a slightly more powerful feel the 1.7.
